A solid first day at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Bulgaria with all of the New Zealand junior crews safely through along with the senior lightweight pair.

Senior lightweight sculler Lucy Strack missed out on direct qualification, but has a second chance in the repechage.

The junior men's coxed four lead all the way in their heat to qualify for the semi-finals, the junior women's quad scull finished second to progress to the semi, the junior men's quad finished second to go to the quaretr-finals and the junior women's coxless four finished third to progress to the semi-finals.

The lightweight men's pair won their heat to go to the semi-finals.

This is a combined regatta for the Junior World Championships and the Senior World Championships for the non-Olympic boats.
