Lee off the pace in Wyndham

The New Zealand golf number one Danny Lee is off the pace after round one of the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour.

The former US Amateur Champion carded a one over par 71 at the Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina to be in a share of 100th place.

He will begin the second round nine shots back from Swede Carl Pettersson who opened with an eight under par 62 to lead American David Mathis and South African Tim Clark by one shot.

Lee, who is projected to drop to 161 on the Fed Ex Cup Standings, needs to climb 36 places to finish inside the top 125 and qualify for the first Fed Ex Playoff Event the Barclays later this month.
