'I'm no fool' says departing Warriors coach

8:37 am on 22 August 2012

The sacked Warriors coach Brian McClennan says his demise doesn't mean he's no longer a good rugby league coach.

The Warriors lost their sixth game in a row at the weekend, dropping out of finals contention to wooden spooner contenders ultimately costing McClennan his job.

It's was McClennan's first year in the job and his first time as an NRL coach having previously coached in the British Superleague and the New Zealand national side.

McClennan says he never thought he was a coaching genius when he enjoyed success in the English superleague or with the Kiwis.

He says the reverse is now true, in that losing his job doesn't mean he's a fool.

Assistant coach Tony Iro will take over the reins for the final two games of the season before the club recruit a new head coach.
