New Zealand's champion shot-putter Valerie Adams has extended her lead in the Diamond League standings after winning in Lausanne on Friday morning.

Adams threw 20.95 metres with her sixth and last throw to beat American Michelle Carter by 1.35 metres.

Adams, the two-time Olympic champion, is unbeaten in the Diamond League series, and is now well clear of her rivals.

She easily broke the meeting record.

Adams already had a sizeable lead in the League standings.

Meanwhile six-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt won the 200 metres in 19.58 seconds, well under his 19.19 world record despite what is known as a fast track.

Fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake became the second-fastest man ever over 100 metres as he ran a personal best of 9.69 seconds to win the race from the American Tyson Gay.

Kenya's Silas Kiplagat won the men's 1500 metres. Nick Willis was 11th.
