Hopes that Adams could have gold medal by end of week

There's a slim chance that world and Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams could be presented with her London gold medal at an athletics meetings in Zurich on Friday.

Adams was promoted to first at the London Olympics after Belarussian Nedzeya Ostapchuk was stripped of the title for a positive drugs test.

Adams returned her silver medal to the International Olympic Committee last week with the IOC having asked for all medals to be returned by the end of the month.

After winning a Diamond League meeting in Birmingham over the weekend Adams said she hoped to be awarded the gold medal at the next meeting in Zurich on Friday.

However Adams manager Nick Cowan believes Adams may be a little optimistic.

He says the silver and bronze medals have been returned to the IOC but is unaware of Ostapchuk having returned the gold medal.

Cowan expects the medal won't be presented for at least several weeks and quite possibly months.
