League One side Swindon upset Stoke with a dramatic 4-3 victory after extra time at the Britannia Stadium, while Fulham were the other top-flight side to bow out, beaten 1-0 by Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.
Aston Villa claimed a 3-0 victory over League One side Tranmere at Villa Park, while Swansea beat Championship team Barnsley 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium.
Southampton won 4-1 at Stevenage, West Ham beat League One club Crewe 2-0 win at Upton Park while QPR recorded a 3-0 win over League One team Walsall at Loftus Road.
Sunderland strolled to a 2-0 win over League Two outfit Morecambe at the Stadium of Light, while Wigan, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich and Reading all advanced.
