The Oceania football champions Tahiti will be hard pressed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup after a 4-0 drubbing from New Caledonia in their third round qualifying match in Papeete.

New Caledonia sealed the result with three goals inside five minutes to make it two losses for Tahiti, who opened this stage of the qualifying programme with a 2-0 loss to the Solomon Islands.

New Zealand lead the Oceania group with the maximum six points after their 6-1 win over the Solomons on Tuesday night in Auckland.

The third round of games is on October the 12th when Tahiti host the All Whites in Papeete and the Solomon Islands play New Caledonia in Honiara.
