The Tasman Makos were too strong for Southland in Blenheim in Wednesday night's ITM Cup Championship clash, defeating the Stags 13-10.
Tries from Peter Betham and Robbie Malneek put Tasman in the driving seat but Southland fought back with an Alex Ryan try and a Mart McKenzie penalty to tie the game 10-10.
But a Hayden Cripps penalty was enough to earn Tasman the win and elevate them to second on the Championship table with three wins from four.
