The world's top two golfers Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are set to lead their Ryder Cup golf teams this week after final-round fades yesterday at the PGA Tour Championship cost them a shot at an eight-figure payday.

Brandt Snedeker, a wildcard selection for the US Ryder Cup team, upstaged the world's leading players in Atlanta yesterday to scoop nearly $US11.5 million, and jump to 10th in the world rankings.

The European team boasts four of the world's top five players, and they'll start their defence at the three-day tournament starting on Saturday at the Medinah course in Chicago.
