Ryder Cup teams seek inspiration from icons

The US and European golf teams will be seeking inspiration from legendary sporting figures during the three-day Ryder Cup match starting on Saturday at the Medinah course in Chicago.

Tiger Woods is hoping the Chicago basketball legend Michael Jordan, who's been hooked on the game since retiring from basketball, can be a key motivational figure for the US in their bid to wrestle back the Ryder Cup from Europe this week.

And in homage to the Spanish great Severiano Ballesteros, who died of a brain tumour last year, the white bags of the European players will carry an iconic image of him taken when he sank the winning putt at the British Open in St Andrews in 1984.
