Southland has seen off the former All Black halfback Jimmy Cowan in winning fashion, beating rivals Northland 16-12 in Invercargill.
Cowan played his 101st provincial rugby game for the Stags in the victory and now heads north to join English club Gloucester.
He's credited by Southland as having played 102 representative fixtures, but one of those was a 2001 friendly against Super Rugby side the ACT Brumbies.
