The New Zealand women's cricket team has been heavily beaten by England in the first semi-final at the World Twenty20 tournament in Colombo.

In a match played played in front of near-empty stands in the Sri Lankan capital, England's spin bowlers did most of the damage as New Zealand were restricted to 93 for 8 after being sent in to bat, and England reached their modest target with 16 balls and seven wickets to spare.

The defending champions Australia and the West Indies play their semi-final tonight.
