The West Indies have thrashed Australia by 74 runs in their World Twenty20 cricket semi-final to reach the final against hosts Sri Lanka.

Chasing 206 for victory, Australia were all out for 131 with just over three overs remaining.

The Windies' Jamaican opener Chris Gayle hit six sixes in his 75 not out and was named man of the match.

The West Indies now play the hosts in the final overnight Sunday-Monday, NZT.

The Australian women's cricketers reversed that result in their semi-final, beating the West Indies by 28 runs. They'll play England in the final.
