Taranaki overcame a 15-6 half-time defecit to beat Southland 47-18 in Invercargil.
Auckland won the battle of the bridge, beating North Harbour 36-16 in Albany.
Wellington, Taranaki and Auckland fill the top three spots with Canterbury fourth and likely to take the last spot ahead of Waikato.
There is one round remaining.
Southland are just outside a play-off spot in the Championship while North Harbour have now lost all nine of their matches this season.
