Cole free for England after apology to FA

The Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has apologised to the English Football Association chairman David Bernstein for a Twitter insult he aimed at the FA last week, and he's free to play for England against San Marino this weekend.

The FA has charged Cole with misconduct following his offensive tweet after the governing body's independent commission had queried what they described as his "evolving" evidence for John Terry in the Chelsea captain's racial abuse case.

Cole has until early Friday morning to respond to the FA charge.
