New Zealand squash star Joelle King has come within a whisker of beating world number one Nicol David in the semi-finals of the prestigious US Open in Philadelphia.
King had to qualify for the event but the world number 12 had already accounted for fifth-ranked Egyptian Nour El Sherbini and English world number four Jenny Duncalf in the previous two rounds.
However King looked set for a quick defeat after dropping the first two games against David.
The 24-year-old dug deep to take the next two games to push the Malaysian to five before David showed her class to win 11-8 11-6 5-11 8-11, 11-7 victory in a gruelling 83 minutes.
David plays Raneem El Weleily in the final, after the second-seeded Egyptian downed England's Laura Massaro, also in five sets.
