Injured test driver says best is yet to come

The Spanish Formula One test driver Maria De Villota believes the best is still to come despite losing an eye in a horrific testing accident in England three months ago.

Speaking in public for the first time since her near fatal accident, 32-year-old de Villota recounted how she had woken after surgery in July to have the news broken to her.

Formula One's only female test driver feared at the time for her future in the sport without her right eye, but says now it seems like a miracle as in some ways she sees more than before the accident.

De Villota still faces several operations to help correct facial injuries and skull fractures, but she's determined to stay involved with Formula One in some form.
