Phoenix pick up bonus point in Melbourne

8:57 am on 15 October 2012

The depleted Wellington Phoenix excelled themselves to earn a valuable away point from a 1-all draw with the Melbourne Heart yesterday in the second round of the A-league.

Without seven players and their coach on international duty, the Phoenix maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a gritty draw, scoring their equaliser from the penalty spot after the Heart had dominated the first half.

The home team were reduced to 10 men just after the break when Simon Colosimo was sent off for a deliberate handball, Paul Ifill converting the resulting spot-kick.

The Phoenix and the Heart both have a win and a draw from their opening two matches of the season, and they're sharing second place, two points behind Adelaide United.
