Sol Campbell fires shot at UEFA over racism fines

3:06 pm on 22 October 2012

Former England defender Sol Campbell says European football's governing body UEFA should introduce points deductions to stop racism rather than fining national associations when it happens.

Campbell, who played 73 times for England, said UEFA now needed to send a strong message to football associations following the events in Serbia, where England's under-21 players were allegedly racially abused at a European championship playoff match.

Campbell says if teams start missing out on qualifying for competitions because they're being deducted points as a result of racism - they would make an effort to stamp it out.

However, Campbell says he doesn't think UEFA will do anything about it - and says it's likely Serbia will get away with only minor punishment.
