European club matches to exhibit anti-racism armbands

Team captains playing in Champions and Europa League football matches this week will be asked to wear anti-racism armbands as part of a campaign against discrimination.

The European football governing body UEFA says it's backing a campaign by a Europe-wide group aiming to rid the sport of racism.

Captains will wear armbands featuring the words 'Unite against racism'.

Frequently criticised for not doing enough to stamp out racism, UEFA says 30-second video messages would be played on stadium screens before games, and teams would be accompanied by children wearing t-shirts with anti-racism messages.
