Phoenix's unbeaten season start comes to an end

The Wellington Phoenix's unbeaten early season run in the the Australian A-League football competition has ended in controversial fashion in Adelaide, downed 3-1 in a bitter encounter.

Adelaide double scorer Jeronimo Neumann's been labelled a cheat by Phoenix captain Andrew Durante for diving, which led to Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund being sent off.

The Phoenix are to appeal the red card.

The Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert was also annoyed a goal by striker Jeremy Brockie was ruled offside when video footage suggested otherwise, while saying a goal by Adelaide shortly afterwards was offside.

Adelaide join Newcastle at the top of the A-League table.
