Silver Ferns win final full test of the year

The Silver Ferns won the final full netball test of the year 48-43 over Australia in Hamilton in a tight game dominated by defence on both sides.

The win hands a slight edge to the Silver Ferns with three wins from the five tests played this year against the Diamonds - who still won the Quad Series thanks to a far superior goal difference.

The two teams split a series apiece this season so far, after the Ferns won the Constellation Cup.

The Waikato win was a good conclusion to the international season for coach Wai Taumaunu, who's been sifting her lineup through the series to add experience and depth.

Taumaunu says one of the most satisfying things is that the win showed progress. There were areas in the Constellation Cup that showed some improvement but the final loss in that series and the big 20-goal loss in Sydney made her question whether that improvement was real.

In the early game England beat South Africa 56-30 to claim third place.

The Silver Ferns now have a couple of days off before regrouping ahead of next week's Fast5 series at Auckland's Vector Arena.
