NZ jockey has plenty of offers after Melbourne Cup effort

The offers are already pouring in for young New Zealand jockey James Macdonald after riding Fiorente to second place in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.

Macdonald, who's only been based in Australia for three months and was riding in just his first Melbourne Cup, says he's already talked to Lloyd Williams - who's owned four Melbourne Cup winners, including the 2012 winner Green Moon.

Macdonald says Williams told him his time would come and it would more than likely be on a horse he owns.

There was a sour note for McDonald though as he's been given a 14-meeting suspension for causing interference to fellow Cup runner Sanagas.

He's appealed the penalty and a hearing will be held on Friday.
