Mickelson says long putter ban would be grossly unfair

The American golf star Phil Mickelson has entered the growing debate about the use of long putters, saying it would be grossly unfair if they were banned.

Mickelson says he disagrees with his long time rival Tiger Woods that the long putters, which are under scrutiny from golf's rules-making bodies, should be banned.

The four-time Major-winner has never used a "belly" or "broomstick" putter which have been permitted for 30 years, while Woods claims long putters give players an unfair advantage as they can be steadied against the body, and he wants a ruling that the putter should be the shortest club in the bag.
