Media coverage threat looms over India-England series

5:45 am on 15 November 2012

Major international news agencies are likely to suspend coverage of the India-England cricket series following a decision by the Indian Cricket Board to ban photo agencies from covering the series which starts later today in Ahmedabad.

The News Media Coalition, which champions freedom of the media, has urged the Indian Board to lift its restrictions on the local and international picture agencies.

The Indian Board hasn't explained why it's discriminating against photographic agencies, and it's offered to make its own photos available, but the Media Coalition says that's an unacceptable subsititute for independent and objective press photography.
