QPR quash Hughes sacking rumours

The English Premier League football club Queens Park Rangers have been quick to quash any rumours their manager Mark Hughes had been sacked.

After the London-based club were beaten 3-1 at home to fellow league strugglers Southampton, the social networking site Twitter was rife with speculation Hughes had been sacked.

The defeat also rooted Rangers winless at the bottom of the table.

The rumours were sparked after Hughes met QPR chief executive Philip Beard - who Rangers' chairman Tony Fernandes sent to fire previous manager Neil Warnock.

However, a spokesperson for the club, Ian Taylor, dismissed the rumours and said Hughes had not been sacked.
