Lisa Carrington has won the titles of supreme winner and senior sportswoman at the Maori sports awards in Auckland.

The 23-year-old, who won an Olympic gold medal in sprint canoeing, arrived at the ceremony by helicopter, as she was busy taking part in a weekend of events.

Carrington says she's now now focused on getting back on the water to compete early next year.

The rower Storm Uru collected the award for senior sportsman, and the swimmer Cameron Leslie was named disabled Maori sports person of the year.

The Maori sports coach category went to Waimarama Taumaunu for leading the Silver Ferns netball squad.
