du Plessis savours pain in dream test debut

The South African cricket all rounder Faf du Plessis battled dehydration and cramping during a match-defining century against Australia yesterday, but he said it made his contribution to a second test draw against Australia in Adelaide all the more sweet.

In a dream test debut, 28 year old Du Plessis scored 78 in the first innings to help his team avoid the follow-on and an unbeaten 110 in the second as he steered South Africa to safety in stifling heat with only two wickets in hand.

Man of the match Du Plessis had come to the crease with South Africa reeling at 45-4 shortly after tea on day four and with seemingly little hope of salvation.

So after two draws, the series will be decided in the Perth test which starts on Friday.
