Quade Cooper's future appears to be with rugby

A formal announcement on the future of the controversial Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper is expected from the Australian Rugby Union on Friday.

The Queensland Reds are planning for Cooper to be running things in their opening Super Rugby trial on February the 2nd against the Blues at Toowoomba - six days before the first five eighths makes his boxing debut on the undercard of Sonny Bill Williams' heavyweight bout with Francois Botha in Brisbane.

Cooper is also set to train with Williams in Japan next month but at this point, the Reds still expect Cooper to honour his unratified three-year contract and play in their first hit-out of the season.

Cooper baulked at signing a new contract with the ARU after being offered a reduced deal, though he has signed up again for three years with Queensland.
