England in charge of test series after big win over India

11:51 am on 10 December 2012

The English cricketers have thrashed India by seven wickets in the third test at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

England batsman Alastair Cook couldn't repeat his feats from the first innings when he scored 190 - he was stumped for only the second time in his career for just one run, though the required target of just 40 was never going to allow high scores in the tourists' second innings.

Still they were struggling on eight for three before Ian Bell and Nick Compton finished the job with 28 and nine not out respectively.

It's the first time since the 1999-2000 season that India has been beaten in back-to-back home tests.

England now leads the series 2-1 with one test remaining, starting at Nagpur on Thursday.
