The former world tennis number one Kim Clijsters has celebrated the end of her career with a win in an exhibition match against American rival Venus Williams in Belgium.

Clijsters, who won 41 career singles titles, took to the court for her last official match at the US Open in August, but was keen to play for one last time in front of a home crowd.

Clijsters retired for the first time in 2007 but returned in 2009 and, with only two warm-up events won the US Open title, becoming the first mother to win a grand slam since Australian Evonne Cawley in 1980.

She defended the title in 2010 and also won the 2011 Australian Open.
