New Zealand scored 288 for six in their 50 overs with Amy Satterthwaite making 109.
Australia overcame a mid-innings wobble to reach their target with three overs to spare.
New Zealand must win three of the four remaining matches to win the Rose Bowl, with game three in Sydney on Monday.
