Black Caps embarrassed in first T20

8:18 am on 22 December 2012

The New Zealand men's cricketers' tour to South Africa is off to the worst possible start, humbled by the Proteas and losing the first Twenty20 match by eight wickets in Durban.

In an embarrassing batting performance the Black Caps were all out for just 86 in the 19th over, and the Proteas easily knocked over the target in just 12 overs and one ball, making 87 for two.

Only three players reached double figures for New Zealand with the highest score of 23 coming from Colin Munro - one of four debutants.

The 86 all out is the third-lowest score ever in T-20s for New Zealand.

There are three matches in the series. The second game is in East London on Monday (NZT) and the third in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.
