Aces win a tight one against Wizards

The domestic champion Auckland Aces have posted their second win from two Twenty20 matches to stay top of the HRV Cup with a narrow eight-run victory over the Canterbury Wizards.

Batting first in their first game on the main field at Eden Park in almost four years, the Aces set a daunting total of 197 for seven, with captain Gareth Hopkins scoring 64 and all rounder Colin de Grandhomme 60.

But the Wizards stayed in it til the final over, when they were 183 for two.

Needing 15 runs off Andre Adams, Canterbury instead lost four wickets to a couple of Lou Vincent catches on the boundary, an Adams run out and another catch - crashing to 189 for six.

The loss is the Wizards' third from three and makes their chances of making the final rather slim.
