The Central Stags cricket side has beaten the Northern Knights by 43 runs to register their first win of the Twenty20 competition.

Central made 186 for four off their 20 overs at Pukekura Park, with Matthew Sinclair smashing 71 off 52 balls - including four sixes. Sinclair shared in a crucial 111-run partnership with New Zealand Under-19s captain Will Young to set the Stags on their way.

In reply the Knights were all out for 143 with captain Scott Styris leading the scoring with 77 off just 47 balls, including five sixes.

They still share the competition lead with Wellington on 16 points each.

The Stags move off the bottom above Canterbury, who are still without a win.
