The Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc says despite being shattered about missing the Boxing Day Cricket Test, the decision to rest him was the right one for the team.

The young left-armer is expected to return to the side for the final Test against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground later this week.

He is philosophical about missing out on what would have been his first Boxing Day Test in Melbourne which finished in just over two and a half days on Friday.

If it had gone five days he could could have bowled more than 40 overs, and Starc says it was the right decision for the team at the time.
