Olympic athletes figure prominently in the New Year's Honours list in the wake of New Zealand's successful medal return at the London Games earlier this year.
The two-time gold medallist and six-time Olympian Mark Todd heads the list having been made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to equestrian.
Sir Mark, who's 56, won his first gold medal in the individual event at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
He's also won three bronze medals, the latest in London which equalled the Olympic record for the longest gap between Olympic medals.
The on-water success of New Zealanders in London has also led to several rowers, sailors and a kayaker being recognised.
The Olympic rowers Hamish Bond, Eric Murray, Joseph Sullivan and Nathan Cohen who won gold medals in London have all been made Members of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Sailors Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie, kayaker Lisa Carrington who also won gold in London have also been made members of the same order.
The former international footballer Maia Jackman has also becomes a Member of the Order of Merit
Others recognised for their contribution to sport include the current chairman of the International Cricket Council, Wellingtonian Alan Isaac who becomes a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
The former Kiwis rugby league coach Graham Lowe becomes an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit while former All Blacks selectors and long time rugby coach Peter Thorburn becomes a Member of the Order of Merit.
