National Football League coach Pat Shurmur has become the first coaching casualty after he was sacked by the Cleveland Browns just hours after the regular season had finished.

The Browns, who scored just five wins closed out the season with a 24-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

General Manager Tom Heckert has also both been relieved of his duties.

Meanwhile the Washington Redskins have defeated the Dallas Cowboys 28-18 to claim the NFC East crown for the first time since 1999 and deny their bitter rivals a spot in the postseason.
