Face saving second innings effort from the Black Caps

The New Zealand cricketers have turned in a face-saving second innings batting effort to be 164 for four heading into the third day of the first test against South Africa in Capetown.

The Black Caps still trail the home side by 133 runs after South Africa declared its first innings at 347 for eight.

Dean Brownlie is unbeaten on 69, while captain Brendon McCullum made 51.

Pace bowlers Doug Bracewell and Chris Martin were the most successful of the New Zealand bowlers each taking three wickets.
