The winless run of the Wellington Phoenix in Melbourne has continued, beaten two-nil by the Victory in their A League football match last night.

The former Phoenix midfielder Marco Rojas scored one and hand a hand in another goal, in helping defeat his former club and leave the Phoenix in eighth spot in the competition.

The match marked Ricki Herbert's 152nd A-League game as a coach, making him the most capped coach in the competition.

The win moves the Melbourne Victory to within a win of second placed Adelaide United, who drew nil-all with the Newcastle Jets.

Meanwhile All Whites striker Shane Smeltz returned to goal scoring form with a double for Perth Glory but it wasn't enough to seal a win as they drew two all with Sydney FC.
