The Waikato first-five-eighth Sam Christie has signed with the Western Force for the upcoming Super Rugby season.

Christie, who's Australian-eligible through his Adelaide-born father, is the ninth new member of the Force squad for 2013.

He made his debut for Waikato in 2006 but has been in and out of the side since.

The 26-year-old Christie trained in Perth with the squad in December and says he's excited at the prospect of playing for the Force having been working hard for a number of years to earn a Super rugby contract.

He joins Waikato team-mate Toby Lynn and former All Black and Blues halfback Alby Mathewson at the franchise.
