Monfils couldn't replicate 3-set heroics

The wild card entry Gael Monfilswho delighted crowds at the Heineken tennis Open this week with some spirited performances, says he couldn't muster enough energy to beat the reigning champion David Ferrer.

The former world number seven fought his way into the semi finals in Auckland after he saw off third seed Tommy Haas in three sets in last night's quarter final in Auckland.

But the Frenchman provided little resistance when he met Ferrer this afternoon, losing 6-1, 6-2.

Mofils says he was tired after yesterday's 3-set heroics and the Spainard was just too good.

Ferrer, who is chasing a record-equalling fourth title in Auckland, meets the second seed Philip Kohlschreiber of Germany in the final tomorrow.
