The Spanish top seed David Ferrer has won the Heineken Open men's tennis tournament in Auckland, beating German second seed Phillip Kohlschreiber in straight sets in the final.

Ferrer, the world number five, won the first set in a tie break and took the second set 6-1.

It is Ferrer's 4th Heineken Open title and third in a row and that equals the record of the Australian great Roy Emerson.

Top seeds Colin Fleming of Great Britain and Bruno Soares of Brazil won the doubles title.
