McIlroy to make big money from Nike

7:22 am on 15 January 2013

The world golf number one Rory McIlroy has been unveiled as Nike's new brand ambassador, making him one of the highest paid sports stars in the world.

The exact detail of the sponsorship may never be revealed, but it has been reported to be worth around 120 to 150 million dollars over five years.

That could earn the Northern Irishman around 60 thousand dollars a day.

Tiger Woods has been Nike's standard-bearer for the last 16 years, but McIlroy will be paid even more.

The deal will take him into the same league as the top global earners of last year, boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio, golfer Tiger Woods, Basketball player Le Bron James and tennis player Roger Federer.

McIlroy, who has won 2 major titles, earned 25 million dollars in prize money last season, and around 30 million in endorsements and appearance money.
