Christchurch triathletes Dylan McNeice and Gina Crawford have won their respective Challenge Wanaka Ironman races.

Crawford triumphed over a stomach bug suffered earlier in the week to set a new women's course record of nine hours 24 minutes and 31 seconds, bettering her previous record by about four minutes, while McNeice had a breakthrough victory in his first long distance triathlon.

After 10 years racing as a professional over the Olympic distance, McNeice finished in eight hours 51 minutes and 18 seconds ahead of Auckland's Jamie Whyte and Australian powerhouse Chris McCormack.

Candice Hammond of Cambridge ran down Aucklander Joanna Lawn in the final two kilometres to finish second in the women's race, with Lawn collapsing with exhaustion on the finish line in third.
