A serious knee injury to impact forward Sione Lousi soured Matt Elliott's first game in charge of the Warriors.

Elliott's youthful New Zealand outfit, which is missing 17 front-liners, went down 42-24 to the Gold Coast in a pre-season encounter at Pizzey Park.

Lousi, a giant 23-year-old, who has played 31 National Rugby League games, was carried off the field in the 52nd minute after reeling away from a hit-up near the Titans' line.

Lousi punched the turf in disgust and then writhed in agony when club medics detected ligament damage to his right knee.

Elliott says Lousi's injury appears to have affected his posterior cruciate ligament which is not necessarily season-ending.

Lousi's brother Sam also finished the night with some worries as he was placed on report for a high tackle in the second half.

Elliott says he was was most impressed by lock Sebastine Ikahihifo, who laid the platform for the opening try of the match when Alehana Mara put five-eighth Pita Godinet over in the second minute.
