Botha accused of failed dope test before SBW fight

The South African boxer Francois Botha has been accused of failing a drug test before his controversial heavyweight bout against Sonny Bill Williams in Brisbane last Friday.

The Sydney Morning Herald claims Botha had tested positive for phentermine, a banned appetite suppressant, before losing to Williams on points after the farcical bout was reduced from 12 rounds to 10, just when Botha was getting on top of the former All Black.

Doubts also surfaced over the fight's status as a purported World Boxing Association international heavyweight title bout, after local media reported that no officials from the organisation were present.
