In the wake of an angry reaction from around the wrestling world, the International Olympic Committee is playing down the finality of its decision to drop the ancient sport from the Games programme.

The IOC president Jacques Rogge says the International Wrestling Federation has reacted well to the disappointment, vowing to adapt the sport, and fight to be included in the 2020 Games.

The IOC is eager to revamp its sports programme to keep it relevant to a new generation of viewers, fans and sponsors, and a final decision on the 2020 programme will be made in September.
