More power for Super Rugby TMOs

2:11 pm on 14 February 2013

The responsibilities of the television match official will be extended in this year's Super Rugby tournament as part of a global trial.

TMOs will now be able to consider clear and obvious infringements in the lead up to a try by examining the action as far back as the last restart of play, but no further than two phases before the try.

Previously the TMO could only look at the actual scoring of the try over the try-line.

The TMO can also be asked to examine a serious act of foul play which could attract a yellow or red card and can assist the referee with identifying players who committed fouls.
