The world golf number one Yani Tseng of Taipei says she was staggered by the performance of playing partner Lydia Ko on the opening day of the Australian Open in Canberra.

The 15-year-old New Zealand amateur hit a record 10-under-par 63 for a one-stroke lead

Tseng, who has won 26 tournaments with career earnings of 11 million dollars, was very happy with her five under par round, while the third member of the group the American star Michelle Wie was one over par.

Afterwards Tseng was stunned by the performance of the young New Zealander and says she thought she was going to witness history when Ko was on target for a 59.

The world's top-ranked amateur needed just 21 putts.

Tseng says Ko still looks like a child but plays like a pro.
